As a teen, I essentially worshiped the ground that Chris Cornell walked on with Soundgarden. His solo material was always another story, however. Songbook is an interesting look back at Cornell’s entire musical career, encompassing songs with Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, Audioslave as well as his solo work while also delivering solid covers of Led Zeppelin’s Thank You and John Lennon’s Imagine. Though Cornell’s voice could be hit or miss in the past, he sounds in fine form and thoroughly engaged throughout these 16 tracks.
