Canadian retro rockers The Sheepdogs win Rolling Stone Competition

Saskatchewan rock n rollers The Sheepdogs have made history, becoming the first unsigned act that will grace the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine. The group beat out 15 other acts to win the competition which, among other perks, secured them a recording contract with Atlantic Records. The group will also be the musical guest on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon tonight (August 2).

Formed in 2006, The Sheepdogs have toured across North America and have released three independent albums. On August 2nd, the Sheepdogs will be releasing a digital-exclusive EP, Five Easy Pieces.

As much as the band wears their influences on their sleeves, I consider them to be a breath of fresh air in a music business filled with soulless one-hit wonders, auto tune and worse.

The Sheepdogs’ Rolling Stone cover will be on newsstand shelves on Friday August 5.
