In the time between their 2008 debut Jackson Square and this most recent effort, Hamilton’s Arkells have done a lot of growing up. Whether it is the endless amounts of live shows the band has played or wanting to explore other musical territory, Michigan Left doesn’t boast the harder edge sound that had defined their debut. Not to say that Michigan Left is a bad listen by any means but those expecting a raucous, raw follow-up to their debut might be caught slightly off guard. Though the band opts to lean more upon pop music than rock music on these 10 tracks, it doesn’t make them any less memorable at the end of the day.
