Vancouver heavy-metal band 3 Inches Of Blood are bringing their aggressive brand of heaviness to the Manhattan Bar and Grill in Moncton next Thursday, October 15. The group is currently on the road in the US, headlining their own shows while also supporting acts such as In Flames and Slipknot before crossing the border back into Canada for a quick 14-show run starting in Halifax and ending in BC just over two weeks later.
For their newest record, the recently-released Here Waits Thy Doom, 3 Inches Of Blood moved to the influential Century Media Records label from their prior home at Roadrunner.
“We had been signed to Roadrunner until mid-2008 and then they decided they didn’t need us on the label anymore,” 3IOB vocalist Cam Pipes says matter-of-factly. “As a band, we didn’t necessarily feel supported at Roadrunner anyway so it is really all for the best in the end.”
He acknowledges that to date, Century Media seems to be a much better fit for the band.
“They (Century Media) actively pursued us and so far, they are doing a great job promoting the group and our new record. It already seems to be a much better relationship than where we had been.”
Pipes is encouraged by the reception the record has received from fans so far and says that the band’s new drummer Ash Pearson is fitting in well amongst the rest of the group.
“There is definitely a greater consistency in the way our rhythm section works now. Overall, it is a lot more solid and has better fundamentals than what we’ve experienced in the past.”
Although they haven’t truly broken through to the mainstream, 3 Inches of Blood are one of the bands fortunate enough to maintain a respectable following of fans instead of forever toiling away in obscurity. Their fans support has allowed them to continue making music and touring the world without having to rely on day jobs, a relatively modest luxury which not all bands are afforded.
“Globally, I think the heavy-metal scene is healthy; after all it is a scene that has afforded us the opportunity to get out there and pursue making music. I wouldn’t put us in the successful upper echelons of the heavy-metal scene but we have definitely achieved a respectable level of success with what we have done with the fan base we have.”
Catch 3 Inches of Blood live at the Manhattan Bar and Grill on Westmorland Street in Moncton on Thursday October 15. Advance tickets to the show are $10, available at Read’s Newsstand on Main St and online at www.ticketpro.ca.
