The Sounds – Something To Die For (Side One Dummy/EMI Music Canada)

Hailing from Sweden, home of pop stalwarts Abba and The Cardigans, The Sounds have more in common with the former rather than the latter. These 10 synth-heavy tracks lean upon the sounds of the late ’70s and early ’80s, veering into new wave territory on occasion. While there are no dance club anthems here, that’s the beautiful thing about the band. They take sufficient influence from the world of dance music and mix it with real instrumentation to create a confident, unique meld of the two that should easily appeal to fans of either genre.
