Rumer – Boys Don’t Cry (Warner Music Canada)

  • by Ken Kelley
  • June 28, 2012

Listening to Boys Don’t Cry, the sophomore record by British vocalist Rumer, it is hard to believe that the record is not something straight out of the 1970’s. Of course, a big reason behind that is her selection of the songs featured here from artists including Townes Van Zandt, Todd Rundgren and Hall & Oates date back to this exact era in time. Rumer’s voice helps make Boys Don’t Cry a sweet, gentle and emotionally powerful listen, invoking much of the same feelings that the Carpenters could elicit when listening to their music.
