Rufus Wainwright – All Days Are Nights: Songs For Lulu (Universal Music Canada)

Anyone familiar with Rufus Wainwright should know damn well that he’s a tough cat to categorize. While perhaps best known for lushly orchestrated pop, All Days Are Nights sees the artist tone it down, allowing his vocals and exquisite piano playing take centre stage throughout these 12 tracks. Released in the shadow of the loss of his mother (folk singer Kate McGarrigle), the mood is best described as fond moments of sadness and rememberance backed by mind-bogglingly intricate piano playing.
