Review: Whitehorse – The Northern South Vol. 1 (Six Shooter / Universal Music Canada)

WhitehorseComprised of singer-songwriter / husband and wife team of Luke Doucet and Melissa McLelland, Canadian duo Whitehorse pay tribute to some of the greatest voices in blues music history with The Northern South Vol. 1. Included are tracks by artists including Chuck Berry, Howlin’ Wolf and Robert Johnson, all of which have been thoroughly reimagined by the duo, who have brought each of the six songs featured on the EP well into the 21st century. Especially impressive is Doucet’s guitar solo on “Wang Dang Doodle,” as well as the EP’s closing track, “Come On In My Kitchen,” which sizzles with a lustful intensity.
