Review: Ryan Adams – Ten Songs From Live At Carnegie Hall (Universal Music Canada)

Ryan AdamsLast November, Americana singer-songwriter Ryan Adams performed two solo shows at New York City’s famed Carnegie Hall, compiled the performances and released the sprawling 42-track, six-album set Live At Carnegie Hall. This collection serves as a sampler of sorts, taking 10 of those 42 tracks on which the listener is treated to a glimpse at those performances where Adams brought only his voice, harmonica and small collection of instruments to the stage. Given the nature of the performance, full-band songs like “Gimme Something Good,” “New York, New York,” and “Nobody Girl,” are inevitably transformed into intimately nuanced performances. As a one-man show, Adams doesn’t disappoint, proving he and his songs don’t need a whole lot of fanfare to be heard as something truly remarkable.
