Review: Robin Gibb – Saved By The Bell: The Collected Works Of Robin Gibb 1968-1970 (Rhino / Warner Music Canada)

Robin GibbDespite having found early success with his brothers in the Bee Gees, the late Robin Gibb found his way into the recording studio for some solo work following the negligently publicized break-up of his group as the 60’s faded into the 70’s. This collection assembles Robin’s debut solo effort Robin’s Reign, a completed version of what would have been his sophomore record – Sing Slowly Sisters – along with a disc of rarities. Although Gibb didn’t necessarily spread his wings into unchartered musical territory as a solo artist, Saved By The Bell is a collection of baroque, melancholic pop at its finest.
