Review: Queen – A Night At The Odeon DVD (Eagle Rock / Universal Music Canada)

QueenOn Christmas Eve, 1975, British rock legends Queen took over London’s Hammersmith Odeon for this live concert, the indisputable climax of their A Night At The Opera tour. Originally broadcast live on the BBC, Queen kicks off their performance with a blistering rendition of “Now I’m Here” before moving onto “Ogre Battle” and ”Bohemian Rhapsody,” which was in the midst of a nine-week run at the top of the singles charts. From start to finish, the band delivers an incendiary, energetic performance during which Freddie Mercury’s abundance of talent and showmanship takes centre stage. Also included on the DVD is a 22-minute documentary in which drummer Roger Taylor and Brian May reflect upon the performance, as well as a selection of three songs recorded at Japan’s Budokan in 1975.
