Review: Philip Sayce – Influence (Warner Music Canada)

Philip SayceWith the advent of reality television and karaoke shows like American Idol and The Voice, the ability to actually be able to play a musical instrument has become a diminished attribute in some circles. For that reason alone, Toronto’s Philip Sayce stands out in the best of ways. Hailed by the European press an heir apparent to the throne of Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, and others, Sayce mixes a handful of killer original material alongside covers of Canned Heat, Ten Years After, Little Feat, and The Sonics. As tough as it might be to have an original sound when it comes to the electric guitar, Sayce does so with flying colours, his fiery talent evident in each of Influence’s notes.
