Review of Zeus – Cover Me (Arts & Crafts)

ZeusLeave it to Toronto rock band Zeus to dazzle us all. After two strong studio albums, the band delivers this diverse set of cover songs ranging from the somewhat expected (Big Star, Sam Roberts Band) to the surprising (Flaming Lips, Genesis, Stone Temple Pilots) to the WTF (R. Kelly, Michael Jackson). The group’s take on Big Star’s The Ballad Of El Goodo is as great as their re-imagination of STP’s Vasoline. Cover Me is a fun and ultimately non-ironic romp through pop history.  All bands should cut loose like this every once in awhile.
