Review of Ghost Brothers Of Darkland County (Universal Music Canada)

Ghost BrosA “Southern Gothic Musical” dreamed up by John Mellencamp, author Stephen King and renowned producer T Bone Burnett, thankfully the music on this soundtrack is a little more straightforward than the idea behind it. Assembling a cast of artists both young and old, there are dark bluesy-roots undertones to many of these songs. Kris Kristofferson, Elvis Costello, Sheryl Crow, Taj Mahal, Neko Case, Ryan Bingham and Rosanne Cash all deliver stellar performances, all of which are interspersed with excerpts of dialogue from Meg Ryan, Matthew McConaughey and more. It’s an interesting concept for sure and one that works in large part thanks to the music here.
