Review of Death Valley Driver – Graveyard Dead (Diminished Fifth Records)

Death Valley DriverSounding like the bastard children of Down, Black Sabbath and High On Fire, the guitar riffs come fast and furious on this, Death Valley Driver’s sophomore record. Perhaps the easiest way to sum up the band’s sound is doom metal but death-metal inspired vocals (think Pantera’s Phil Anselmo but with even more growl). Tracks like Iron Jaw and Crimson Mask are aural gold and are perhaps the perfect examples of the group’s influences finding their way into their songs. Death Valley Driver has no problem finding an original voice to lend to these songs, even when wearing their influences so prominently.
