If Tift Merritt, Patsy Cline and Linda Ronstadt could somehow combine their unique vocal talents into one person, it would be Caitlin Rose. She could make a go of being a country singer as easily as she could be a pop singer. Luckily for us, Rose walks a line somewhere in between the country and pop genres, refusing to plant her feet on either side of the border. It is songs like I Was Cruel and Everywhere I Go that listeners get a hint that she too can be vulnerable. At the end of the day however, Rose sounds both assured and sweet throughout The Stand-In.
