Review: Bob Mould – Patch The Sky (Merge Records)

Bob MouldIf you’re supposed to mellow as you get older, Bob Mould didn’t get the memo. On Patch The Sky, the former Husker Du and Sugar leader dazzles with an energetic set of tracks that betray his 55 years, as Mould delivers solid, lean rock songs that shine a light on his punk roots while still retaining the melodic edge that bubbled to the surface during his tenure in Sugar. With only two tracks that break the four-minute mark, Mould shows his acclaim as one of modern music’s most consistent and influential songwriters has been well earned. Recommended tracks: “Pray For Rain,” “Voices In My Head,” “The End Of Things,” and “Monument.”
