Patrick Stump – Soul Punk (Universal Music Canada)

If you’re expecting an album chalk full of pop-punk ditties from Fall Out Boy frontman Patrick Stump, you had best think again. Soul Punk has more in common with the likes of Michael Jackson, Prince and Justin Timberlake than any of the emo pop that Fall Out Boy churned out. Handling all instruments and production duties by himself, Stump does a surprisingly convincing job at playing the R&B card. Once you see past the synth-heavy songs, there are a number of highlights to be found on Soul Punk including a collaboration with Lupe Fiasco on This City while Stump pays tribute to the King of Pop on album opener Explode.
