Low Level Flight – Through These Walls (Fontana North / Universal Music Canada)

Fronted by season one Canadian Idol winner Ryan Malcolm, Low Level Flight are now two records into their career. Their newest album, Through These Walls, borrows liberally from new wave influences including the early 80’s and more currently, The Killers but mostly in the sense that they are both making energetic, upbeat music. Nowhere is this more evident than on tracks including the opening cut Cash Machine, Quiet Rage or Tsk Tsk. Nicely countering the sugar rush of those songs however are more sullen, comparatively relaxed moments like Your Name Here but you can’t help but feel that the band knows that they are really at their peak when the energy level is higher.
